We all have different goals and aspirations, sit down and figure yours out.
Once you've realized your goals, have a plan of action to achieve them. Don't set goals that are unrealistic. By doing so, you may get discouraged.
The purpose of goal setting is to feel encouraged after you achieve them. This allows you to reach for bigger and bigger goals.
Mistake #2: Counting on your friends and family for sales
Sure, when you start a business you expect your friends and family to support you. You expect that they will buy your products and that some of them will even sign up on your team.
You think that you will sign on a few friends, who will sign on a few friends, and so on. Cha-ching! Right? Wrong.
This is a huge network marketing mistake. Not all of your family or friends are interested in your product or opportunity.
You cannot expect your friends and family to make you rich. Of course some of them will buy your products, but you cannot retire off of their efforts.
Many network marketing companies tell you that your friends and family will make you rich. That is a lie. You will have to look to the outside world if you want to succeed.
Mistake #3: Believing that it's simply sharing with others
Another common network marketing mistake is believing that there is no selling involved. Network marketing is sales. Many newbies come in expecting to just share their opportunity and people will fall in love with it just as they did.
Trust us, from experience we know that you have to sell. Many people fail at network marketing because they have no selling skills. Now don’t think that this means you have to use "dirty" sales techniques.
Being honest and helpful allows you to sell. If you don’t know much about sales, you will definitely want to read a book or two. Becoming a network marketing professional is difficult if you don’t know how to sell your product and opportunity.
Mistake #4: Refusing to spend money on training
Now is an appropriate time to mention this common network marketing mistake. Some people fail to realize that network marketing is a real business, just like any other business.
You must spend money to increase your knowledge. We aren't only talking about product training either. Yeah, it’s great for you to have product knowledge, but that isn’t going to sell it for you.
You need to also train yourself on other elements of your business. These things include (but are not limited to):
- Sales
- Marketing
- Website development
- Personal growth and development
You've probably heard that you have to spend money to make money. This is true even with your network marketing business.
Mistake #5: Calling it quits too early
Many people quit building their network marketing business too early. The main reason for this is the fact that they join with false expectations.

You do have to work at your business. You have to put forth time and effort in order for it to grow. In this world you cannot get something for nothing. Well, you can get something for nothing, but is it ever worth anything?
Thinking that you can open a business, not work on it, and still be successful is crazy. You cannot expect to get anything out of your network marketing business if you don’t put anything into it. Period.
Mistake #7: Calling and Mailing to a "cold list"
Buying leads, sending out postcards, and prospecting your warm market are all ways to market to a "cold list". When you are prospecting in this way, you are most likely wasting your time.
You should concentrate on prospecting to those who are interested in owning their own business and more specifically those who are interested in your business. You can do this by
generating your own leads.
By generating your own network marketing leads you are doing more effective prospecting. You can prospect to a "cold list", you never know what you may find. But, don’t make the network marketing mistake of relying on it to build your network marketing business.
Mistake #8: Failing to follow up
So you've found a prospect and they seem interested in your business. Time to celebrate! Well, not really. Just because someone shows interest in your business doesn’t necessarily mean that they want to sign up.
If you fail to follow up with your prospect, they may never sign up. Don’t make this network marketing mistake. Follow up with your prospects and allow them the chance to have objections and ask questions.
Keep in contact with them and they are more likely to join your team. People have so much going on these days that they may forget about your opportunity. Make sure you are there to refresh their memories.
Mistake #9: Relying on your company provided website
Most network marketing companies will provide you with a duplicated site for you to use with your business. Don’t make the mistake of relying on that site. There are a couple reasons for this.
One is that the search engines don’t like duplicated sites. Why? Well, because there are so many of them! Search engines are in the business of providing relevant data.
If someone searches a keyword and the same site keeps coming up over and over the searcher is going to get frustrated and no longer use that search engine.
Another reason is that you're not able to provide your own message with a duplicated site. You cannot alter the site's contents.
The network marketing company's message is the only message that your visitors will encounter. You need to create a more personal experience for your visitors.
Mistake #10: Failing to provide a guarantee
One thing that everyone loves to hear is a guarantee. Now, we aren’t talking about guaranteeing your prospect instant success or millions of dollars or anything like that.
You want to provide your prospect with a guarantee that you are there to help them every step of the way. Starting a new business is an intimidating adventure for some, and they are comforted by knowing that you are there for them.
Share your experiences with your team- both good and bad. You want to make sure that they don’t make the same network marketing mistakes that you did.
Teamwork is very important when it comes to network marketing. Teams should band together and work together to succeed and fulfill their dreams.
